News & Spotlights

Spotlight: Proper Posture Reduces Stress
The best posture for woodworking involves a stable, balanced stance. Here are the key elements to proper posture when woodworking.

Tool Spotlight: Avoiding tablesaw kickback
Table saws are a common source of serious injuries, often resulting in lacerations and amputations, particularly to fingers and hands. Kickback is a major cause of these injuries, understanding and avoiding kickback makes us all safer.

401 N. Johnson Ave in El Cajon
Our special interest groups (SIGs) are the third leg of SDFWA’s woodworking offerings. SIGs offer an opportunity to concentrate on a highly focused aspect of woodworking such as: Hand Tool use, Toy making, Epoxy applications, Digital Tools, Carving, Turning, or Musical Instruments (luthiers). SIGs can also be a gateway to more general woodworking knowledge and skills as with the Fundamentals or Holiday Gift Sale builds where you will be exposed to a wide variety of techniques and tools.
Our SIGs are led by highly motivated and experienced members who want to share their passion for an aspect of woodworking. SIGs generally meet in the shop one or more times a month. During the meetings you will have the opportunity to learn of the latest technique, see it demonstrated, or try it yourself. SIGs are free, no signup required, and open to all SDFWA members (power tool use is limited to shop members). SIG meeting times can and do change, so check the ProClass calendar.
All SDFWA Members welcome!

Craftsman Referral List
How the Craftsman List Works
- Request Submission: The public fills out a Craftsman Referral Form under the Connect tab on the website.
- Project Details Collected: The form gathers contact info (including city), budget, location of the work, project type, and a detailed description.
- Member Notification: This information is emailed out to all woodworkers who have opted into the public referral list.
- Member Selection: It is entirely up to individual members to review the email and decide if they want to pursue the job.
Managing Your Referral Status
- To be added to or removed from the referral list, simply send an email to communications@sdfwa.org.
