SDFWA has volunteered to support several local Navy commands with their Chief Petty Officer Initiation. This initiation tradition includes a requirement for new Chief selectees to carry a notebook, often in a specially made box called a Charge Box Vessel, to collect signatures and wisdom from other Chief Petty Officers within their command. It serves as a record of their interactions, advice, and the lessons learned during the initiation process, culminating in a keepsake of their journey to becoming a Chief. We have committed to helping build these “vessels” for approximately 40 – 50 selectees.
We will have several shop periods dedicated to this build. A small number of Chief selectees will join us in the shop to work under our supervision to build the boxes/vessels.
Lou Cortellini is assigned to be the coordinator for this effort. Please contact him directly with any questions or to sign up as a volunteer. He can be reached at: louis.cortellini@gmail.com
Once we have a list of volunteers, additional information (cut list, build process, etc.) will be provided.
